The last thing I want to do is waste your time so let’s get straight down to it with a breakdown of an average Wedding Reception/Wedding Day
This is rough timetable for a typical Wedding Day.
Wedding Ceremony -13:00 – 13:30
Drinks Reception/Photos – 13:30 – 15:30
Wedding Breakfast (including speeches) – 15:30 – 17:30
Room Turnaround/”In between Bit” – 17:30 – 19:30
Evening Reception – 19:30 – 00:00
Your guests spend half an hour watch you getting married, they spend maybe 1 hour eating and listening to speeches, there is perhaps another half an hour of Wedding formalities throughout the day creating a total of 2 hours when guests have something to do.
This leaves as much as 8:30 hours of time when guests don’t have something to do and may require entertainment.
Yes, I’m aware that people can entertain themselves, catch up with old friends, chat amongst themselves or get drunk amongst other things but how long can that go on for and is that really all you want to give your guests to do on a day when they might have spent a lot of time, effort and money in order to attend?
Almost all couples will arrange some entertainment for the Evening reception so let’s say there’s a Band/DJ/Disco/Photobooth and that is the entire evening’s entertainment sorted.
This still leaves two 2-hour periods where there isn’t really very much going on for guests really, so what about the Afternoon Wedding Reception entertainment though?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row bg_type=”bg_color”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2101″ img_size=”mobile” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
Chris, we both were so pleased to have you with us on our day! All our guests were so thoroughly entertained and we had some lovely feedback about your performance.
You made our guests smile, laugh and you interacted with my crazy family and friends as if they were your own and you were certainly at ease with the banter!
If anyone reading this is in two minds about booking wedding entertainment, book Chris! You won’t regret it.

How to have a wedding reception without guests feeling bored, undervalued and checking their watches
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Wedding Fairs are a great way for me to meet couples face to face and get to know them a little before they make their decisions about wedding reception entertainment as well as other important decisions for their day, most couples want to stop by to see a quick trick and in general I ask couples “if they have thought about/sorted out their Wedding Entertainment yet?” at this point people either have or they haven’t.
A LOT of couples will then go on to say, “yes, sorted, we’re having a band/disco/DJ.”
My response is normally “And what about during the daytime?”
Far too many responses indicate that they aren’t going to be having anything during the day at all – it’s not their fault they’ve just not considered the above timetable and the two gaps in proceedings.
The answer is pretty simple to resolving this issue though – book or arrange some afternoon entertainment for your guests![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
The 5 Most Rubbish Reasons I hear for not booking afternoon Wedding Reception Entertainment (and my tongue in cheek responses)
We don’t need any afternoon wedding reception entertainment!
Then you probably haven’t looked at your wedding timetable properly and realised just how much dead time there is going to be during the day (see the break down of your wedding reception/wedding day below).
We’re the entertainment!
Yes – for your guests there’s nothing more entertaining than you and your partner going off to have your photos taken for an hour and a half……
It’s OK, we’ve got alcohol!
How innovative! Do you really want everyone plastered by 6pm? Do you really want anyone acting out at your wedding and drawing attention away from the day that you and your partner have meticulously planned.
The last thing I’m saying is that people shouldn’t have a drink but I am saying that relying on alcohol to be your wedding entertainment is to be done at your peril!
My family are entertaining enough.
That’s great, on your wedding day you’ve got 6 different groups of people to integrate together though (person one’s family, friends and work colleagues, person two’s family, friends and work colleagues) so having some entertaining members of wedding party is great. But will they be the same when faced with mingling with people they don’t know, how is the ice going to be broken between them all?
It’s OK, my brother-in-law knows a few card tricks….
Excellent – I’m sure his experience of performing at hundreds of events for thousands of people will be invaluable in breaking the ice between guests, keeping the day flowing and keeping absolutely everyone thoroughly entertained – not only that but his entertainment will definitely be remembered for the right reasons!
I’m sure the nerves won’t get the better of him when he’s performed the tricks he knows and he gets asked for one more.

Wedding Reception Entertainment
There’s 2 hours for photos on average, there’s an 1-2 hours at the Wedding Breakfast and there’s 1-2 hours between the afternoon and the evening that’s up to 6 hours without entertainment, now I’m not saying you need entertainment throughout but you do need SOMETHING!
When I talk to couples about their Weddings I ask them to recall previous weddings they have been to and ask if at any point at any Wedding they were stood around feeling bored waiting for the next part of the day to start – the answer is almost always yes.
When this happens guests feel bored and perhaps worse undervalued – they’ve gone to the effort of putting their best face on, buying a new outfit, travelling down, accommodation costs etc only to be stood around twiddling their thumbs – don’t do that to them!
Do you really want your Wedding Guests stood around just waiting for the next part of the day or do you want them kept happy and smiling and there to be a real atmosphere going on?
Arranging Wedding Reception entertainment in the afternoon is a simple way to stop there being any lulls in proceedings, to keep guests happy, to make them feel like something is going on and that they have been thought about, not only that but it also provides you and your partner with peace of mind so that you can relax knowing that your guests are happy.
Close-up Magic is a brilliant choice of entertainment for this time of day as it can be done for all ages, for groups that are stood or sat, it breaks the ice between guests, it creates unforgettable moments and will genuinely create an excellent buzz and atmosphere.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row bg_type=”bg_color”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”1951″ img_size=”mobile” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=”Check Chris’ Availability” txt_align=”center” color=”mulled-wine” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Check Availability” btn_color=”mulled-wine” btn_align=”center” btn_i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-envelope” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chrispiercymagic.co.uk%2Fcontact-me||” btn_button_block=”true” btn_add_icon=”true”]

We had the pleasure of having Chris entertain our guests at our wedding at Coombe Lodge all day.
All our guests and ourselves where absolutely amazed all day and at the end of the wedding breakfast Chris performed in front of everyone which was the highlight of the day as he got our guests to interact with him and was absolutely hilarious.
Chris is a very talented magician, very professional and is very attentive to all, and a really genuine nice guy. We would highly recommend and definitely worth the money.
